  2. The following steps detail how to attach a curtain pole:

  10. Blade, measure, screwdriver, drill, spirit level, bradawl.

  12. Materials
  13. Pole kit, screws, wall plugs
  14.  
  15. Step 1 - Marking the reference line
  16. Measure 50mm up from the window. Use a spirit level to
  17. mark a line horizontally from this point. This is the
  18. line which will align with the centre of the pole.

  20. Step 2 - Measuring the bracket plate
  21. Hold the pole in the desired position against the window
  22. and mark 100mm in from each end. Look at the mounting
  23. plate on the bracket that will hold the pole; it is
  24. usually off-centre. Examine the plate and measure the
  25. distance by which it is off-centre and mark this
  26. distance on the wall above your line.

  28. Step 3 - Attaching the brackets
  29. Fix the screw into the wall, leaving it protruding
  30. slightly for the plate to hook on to. Fit the bracket
  31. in place.

  33. Step 4 - Fixing the pole in position
  34. Position the pole leaving one ring outside the bracket
  35. on either side. Some poles will have space for a
  36. retaining screw which fixes the pole in place from
  37. below the bracket.
